Looking for a job can be one of the most overwhelming, stressful activities you ever undertake. Making the resume can be time-consuming and difficult, but for most types of jobs, it’s a necessity. As I’m sure you are aware, the current economy has caused millions of job loses…and all those millions of people are trying for the same jobs you are. Many employers report dozens or hundreds of applicants for every job opening. Competition is fierce! You need every competitive edge you can get. 1. Customize your cover letter to the position being applied for. Tell your prospective employer why you are the ideal candidate for this particular job.

2. Emphasize anything on your resume that you want your future employer to pay attention to.

3. Mention features of the job being offered, and point out the areas in which you have specific applicable experience or training.

You should start out your cover letter by introducing yourself and mentioning where you discovered the position was available. (ie: newspaper ad, online source, friend, etc.) If someone referred you, make sure that you mention his or her name in the second or third sentence of the letter.
